Well, it is fully summer in North Carolina, and in a lot of the state, that means the bears are out. I lived in western NC for over 15 years, and bear sightings/encounters are not unusual at all in that area.

I have friends that live in the city and routinely see bears in their front yard! But the mountains aren’t the only place you will find them. On the eastern side of the state, the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula is home to the highest black bear density in the world!

This piece is a 20″ x 24″ acrylic on canvas. The background is a mottled gray, echoing a quiet misty morning. The noble silhouette of a bear is filled with the endless forest that covered the Carolinas long ago. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
